Digg me

Phoenix is a formerly Oscar nominated actor, and a good one at that. In 2008, he announced his drama career was done and he was going to try and make it in a fresh field. Then he made a controversial appearance on the David Letterman show. He declared he was leaving acting to become a rapper. A film about him and his new profession was made, titled “I’m Still Here”. The critiques are beginning to come out, as the film has just hit theaters.

The film hasn’t killed ‘em all in the critique columns

Joaquin Phoenix was a really good actor, and a lot of people are probably curious what he’s been up to. The Joaquin Phoenix Letterman appearance, a disaster, might be the last recollection numerous have about him. He seemed to be coming unglued at that point. Many of the “I’m Still Here” critiques discuss in detail the state he is in. Roger Ebert, in his review in the Chicago Sun Times, sums up the allure of the film, which is a talented actor that has gone totally off the rails. Ebert does not have a lot to say about anything else within the film. Ebert also maintained that the unhinged Phoenix is the film’s selling point.

Rap Odyssey

Many “I’m Still Here” critiques compare it to “This is Spinal Tap,” the legendary “mock-doc” by Rob Reiner, which chronicles a British rock-band that’s falling apart. However, there’s no comparing “I’m Still Here” review to “This is Spinal Tap” on Rotten Tomatoes. “Spinal Tap” is a classic. It has a 96 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The critics on Rotten Tomatoes give a 55 percent fresh rating for “I’m Still Here”. Common themes in “I’m Still Here” reviews are Phoenix’s drug use, unhinged behavior and lousy production by the film’s director, Casey Affleck. Casey Affleck, younger brother to Ben Affleck, is also married to Summer, the sister of Joaquin Phoenix.

Shine the light and send him to rehabilitation

This film can’t be about a pre-eminent rapper about for making it large, because he hasn’t; but rather it is about a talented individual who left a successful profession behind and is about to implode. Some might say the film is about schadenfreude; as it is mostly about a person self destructing. Many reviewers have brought up that drugs and insanity killed River Phoenix, Joaquin’s older brother. This might be the beginning of Joaquin Phoenix going down the very same path.
